My personal favorite to watch ATSC programming is the nVidia Pure Video codec, but the gabest MPV codecs works well too (gabest decoders are included with Media Player Classic and are also opensource). Don't install them all! For the purposes of this thread which is focused on the HDHR, I'm only going to talk about MPEG-2 Decoders. But be sure you only select those codecs that you want to install. That being said I do install FFDshow for the 3IVX and older type codecs. Codec packs) is the easiest way to bork your MP install. The mediaplayer it uses will play ANYTHING so long as you have the right codecs and filters installed.Ĥ.

I use an nV 6600GT and Pentium 4 3.0E, so you don't need an UBER computer, but a 6600GT is the lowest card I recommend for HDTV and VMR9.ģ. You need to have a DX9 capable card for it to run well (if you are viewing HDTV, I assume you have this covered. A couple of things you need to know about MP before you start is:ġ. I've used MP for a couple of years now, since nearly the beginning. I should mention that the Mediaportal project is opensource and needs everyone's help for testing and development (especially for ATSC development. THis is just the start I hope, we are only using the 1st tuner and don't have QAM yet in MP, but it will be forthcoming, I hope.

The HDHR is workign in Mediaportal now which is my favorite HTPC front-end. THE HDHR has QAM support and they have gotten it to do QAM in MCE (which is BIG news). I've got this in a post over there and also at the Silicondust forums, which are HDHomerun specific. There's been some discussion about the HDHR here recently and also over at the AVS forum.
